Within a few hours yesterday I was bombarded with about 10 texts, 15 calls, and 15 emails from different companies out of nowhere, with a few still coming in here and there. This really doesn’t seem like an “information broker sold my contact info” kind of thing to me, especially since I did not give my info to anyone recently. Here’s a list of who contacted me:
Several responses to loan applications I didn’t make Several auto insurance quotes I didn’t request Several exterior home contractors saying I reached out about siding/roofing/gutters/etc on my old house (some had my address, one of these companies I actually used before too) I think the majority of these ones came from Angie’s list and Porch from what they told me
But then, it gets a bit weird:
Several anytime fitnesses in the state I used to live in, and a physical appointment was made at one location Apparently an account was created with my info on farmersonly.com (not mad about this one lol) and Christian mingle I got an email from STDcheck.com that someone anonymously reported they may have given me an STD (yeah no) A Christian mission stating I requested a visit from them in the new area I live in (I live on the other side of the country now)
All of these companies that I talked to said that I requested they reach out from my contact info, some through some third party they work with (like Angie’s list or something) but most said I would have had to fill out their online questionnaire to request this.
I’ve checked my bank info, no suspicious charges or notifications someone might be trying to mask.
It’s odd to me that it’s such a non-focused effort? What scammer would benefit from the STD check site notification or the farmers only account? Or scheduling a meeting with a random gym I’ve never been to?
It kind of feels like someone I know might be messing with me on purpose, maybe? I don’t really know, this is just really weird and I don’t know what to make of it. Any info/advice would be helpful!
