So, my dad has two cars and usually pays around $359 per month for insurance. Last week, he met someone who claimed they could get him a 6-month Progressive policy for a one-time payment of $400 – which honestly sounds too good to be true. He went ahead and paid this person via Zelle, and in return, received what looked like valid insurance ID cards. I called Progressive myself, and they confirmed that he is insured under a new policy, and the policy number and car details do match what he was given.
my dad told me to hang up the call before Progressive « noticed » anything weird. My dad still believes he got a great deal and thinks this « agent » has some kind of inside connection with the company.
Personally, I think this is a scam. My guess is that the « agent » only paid for one month, just enough to generate valid ID cards, and will let the policy cancel for non-payment, leaving my dad uninsured for the remaining 5 months.
Is it possible this is legitimate… or did he just get scammed? He’s still happy with the deal, but I’m genuinely worried
