[US] Unknown number called and left voicemail claiming to be deputy calling about documents

Got a completely random “unknown” call today at work on my cell. I didn’t answer obviously. I get spam calls often. I got a voicemail and checked it because I was surprised they bothered to leave one. It was a man who claimed to be a police deputy and said he was “calling about documents they received.” I have sent in no documents and they have no documents on me that I’m aware of. Is this a scam? I haven’t had a scammer try to impersonate police before but this can’t be real because none of this applies to me.
