US Someone tried to open a card in your name bank scam

So “Wells Fargo Bank” started calling me yesterday from their local number at 5:20pm. 3 calls in a row I sent to voicemail because I was at work. I live in smalltown , TX,where the bank closes promptly at 5pm. They called again today and connected me to the “CFPB” and to be honest, she was very good. They had enough to convince me to confirm (and I’m ashamed to admit this, expiration dated and security codes on the 4 cards with the largest credit on them). Then I fell for the we locked your cards and you can’t used them unless you have a password. They insisted on what had to be my “password” if I want to used any of my cards was my mothers maiden name and birth year. Oh as the CFPB they said they locked down my credit reports.

So, I applied for a HELOC today with no problem (nobody had locked down my credit reports 😳). I’ve already blocked all my cards and started the fun process of new passwords. New card phone calls will be going out tomorrow.

Moral of the story: We can all be duped, BUT, we can use that lesson to help us and others!
