[US] Scammers preying on my recently widowed Mother for life insurance money

My Father recently passed away, I honestly didn’t know this till after the funeral but he had several life insurance policies set up with my mother as the beneficiary. He also set up a widow’s pension through the VA she can be taken care of. Myself and my 3 other siblings are supposed to get a portion of the money from the life insurance.

However, these lowlife scammers called mother. The first one was saying to start insurance pay out she needed to pay the « Processing Fees » of $2,000 because due to laws « it needed to be properly insured and registered by a bonded trustee » my mom knew that was a scam immediately and hung up.

A day or two later another one called and I really don’t how they worded it but they basically said because of « Government Laws » anything over 100k, had to be transferred to a bit coin account first so she needed to change the account number to a bit coin account that the company set up so she can receive the money. That was the stupidest thing we ever heard. I’m guessing they didn’t know life insurance policies work.

Scammers who go after mourning families need to be dragged out into the street and beaten.
