I just don’t know how exactly it’s going to play out, and worst case scenario I’m afraid it might jeopardize his safety. I’m having a hard time convincing him.
He apparently met this woman online a few days ago! Now he claims he’s absolutely head over heels, dead set on making her his wife. Everything he’s willing to tell me about this situation stinks of the typical military romance scams. She’s an American stationed in Ukraine, so they can’t properly video call. Her (2) selfies and (1) video look either suspiciously fake or searchable online. He’s sent me a picture of her passport and they have video called for a few seconds, but I know these can be faked. They also share a « secret » of her secretly living at this place he’s staying at when not overseas. (wtf??)
He has refused to send me any of their message exchanges. I’m physically away from him. What’s worse is that he doesn’t not speak English well and they have been communicating through machine translation. I’ve been trying to convince him that he is not thinking straight and that he must not send any money, and he tells me not to worry because she doesn’t want his money but is sending him money instead? He then said he did buy some stuff, but won’t specify.
He says that he plans to use her to pay off his current debt. I do not foresee this going well whatsoever. He does not heed my warning that the money might be fraudulent and that those transactions are going to be used against him. He thinks he has the upper hand even if he’s being lied to and that I’m worrying too much. This is terrible. I need a better understanding of this kind of fraud, and advice how to avoid letting this get any worse.
