I’m freaking out and just looking for advice or similar experiences.
A few days ago, I got a call that looked like it was from Chase (caller ID spoofed). The caller claimed to be from Chase’s fraud department and said there were two suspicious Zelle payments from my account. They convinced me I needed to send money to a « fraud supervisor » via Zelle to reverse the charges — I know now how stupid that sounds, but in the moment, it seemed totally real.
I ended up sending:
$2,000 to number to supervisor.
$500 same thing.
While still on the phone with them, I actually went into a Chase branch — and that’s when the banker told me it was a scam, had me hang up, and file a fraud claim immediately.
I’ve since filed with Chase, the FTC, and the CFPB. Chase told me over the phone they were “reviewing it” and that I might see a temporary credit in 7–10 business days.
Has anyone here actually gotten their money back from a Zelle scam like this with Chase? Do they ever approve these claims? Or am I just stuck hoping for the best?
This is a huge financial hit for me, and I’m honestly losing sleep over it. Any advice or similar stories would help
