US – Google Service Calls

I’ve received two calls from two different people claiming to be Google customer services. None of them had accents and their numbers actually matched Googles customer service numbers. GOOGLE WILL NEVER CALL YOU!

They asked me if I was aware that someone had attempted to change my phone number. They verified my Gmail account and already knew my name and the last 4 of my phone number (obviously). I told them I did not authorize the change so they said that they’d immediately deny the request. Then, for security purposes, they were going to send me a push notification. Regularly I receive two factor push notifications all the time. For some reason they were having « issues » with the push notification and needed me to manually generate my back up codes. I did this and then « Google » sent me a text for me to upload the codes. At that point it just felt stupid. Google doesn’t know how to send a push notification and I have to manually verify through text?! Ridiculous. I told him I’ll just verify online. He became nervous so I just hung up. He called me 6 times after and nothing happened.

Fast forward a month later I get another call from Google this time from Mississippi number. He spoke English but sounded like he had a sinus infection and spoke really fast. He said the same stuff about my number being changed…so I told him he was correct and to change it immediately. He threw a little bitch fit and then hung up.
