I (33F) stopped by a gas station in a city in the US to get gas. After I filled up on gas, I head to the gas station store to buy some things. A women in her 40s or 50s approached me saying something about how she is not a US Citizen and holds up her ID, which I didn’t really look at but I think it was a Permanent Resident ID. She said that because of this, she can’t buy cigarettes and asked me to buy a pack of cigarettes for her.
I never a random stranger come up to me asking me to buy them cigarettes before or show me their ID and citizenship status. I am also not a smoker and never brought cigarettes before so I just told her “no.” She asked why I won’t buy her cigarettes. I told her bluntly that I don’t feel comfortable doing that. To my surprise, she accepted my refusal, nodded, and backed off. I brought my stuff, exited the gas station, glanced around, and saw her by the driver’s seat of a truck with the truck door, kinda posing. I think she smiled at me but I ignored her. She didn’t bother me again and I left.
Was this a scam or something else?
