My developmentally delayed daughter got gift card scammed

My daughter is 20 and has some cognitive issues but she is determined to be more independent. She does volunteer work once a week down the street and is looking for a little part time job.

I’ve warned her about job scams before and she always shares any potential interviews with me and we go over the stuff she’s applied to. Which is why I was not expecting this.

She was approached by the person after seeing a comment on a post where she was talking about her dream job and he offered it to her on a silver platter.

She thought she was a virtual assistant for an org that helped impoverished children internationally and unfortunately she decided to wait to tell me because she wanted to surprise me for my birthday.

She was told she was purchasing gift cards to help with their clothing needs but she didn’t use her own money (she didn’t have that kind of money). he sent the funds. Illegitimate funds.

I am thankful I found out before she spent ALL the money but still we are currently on the hook for $2000 that I currently don’t have in full to give back to the bank due to wiping out savings for an emergency. My only hope is that the bank will accept a payment plan.
