So this was a bit odd… I ordered from a late-night Chinese restaurant a couple hours ago. Got my food, ate it, gave my driver 5 stars for following instructions and a tip.
Roughly 10 minutes ago I received a call from an (833) number. I usually ignore numbers I don’t know but I picked it up anyway and this woman on the other end says « Hello this is Doordash support, are you (name)? »
I don’t say yes, I simply say « What about it? »
She then continues and asks me if I ordered from the Chinese place in question. She claimed that the restaurant is remaking the order because I didn’t receive the food- and she needed to confirm if I’m the person she’s requesting. I stay silent for a second because it just sounded a bit fishy, as I never requested a reorder nor contacted support about my food. I hang up immediately and come to find out that 833 numbers are toll-free numbers that scammers use commonly. Not only this, but the restaurant is currently closed at this time-how and why would they be making my food now?
So my question is.. How the hell did these people find out my name and that I ordered off DoorDash? And so quickly at that? Should I be worried?
