ACCA Cost Question

Hi everyone,

So, I work in financial services, and my employer has always said they’d fund the ACCA. Fast-forward to me actually wanting to start this year, and they are now unsure if the company’s policy on funding is going forward this year because of financial issues. There are lots of redundancies happening at the moment, etc. It might come back in the future. It might not.

Right now, I am considering starting the qualification on my own and self-funding. Perhaps my work will restart the scheme, or if not, I can look elsewhere for somewhere that will fund. My employer is an ACCA-registered one. I would ask if they would still sign off on the study days and practical experience requirement if they weren’t helping with funding.

My questions are, do you think it’s worthwhile to start this by self-funding? I currently work part-time as I am disabled, so I want to stay in my current working pattern in order to have time to study alongside.

Second question, is the cost breakdown I’ve made accurate? Obviously, I am just looking at first sits and a total of 4 years, I know this might change. My employer only offers the exam fees etc., not any tuition fee help, so I would be using the free version of Acowtancy ot maybe the lower end of the paid version for harder exams.

My background is not in finance; I have a BA and MA in the humanities from Russell Group universities, and I did quite well in both. I am hoping these study skills will help me in these exams, but I don’t know.

I know you can get ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) with just the first 3 exams and the professionalism module, so if I can’t manage it, at least I will have something to my name.

Has anyone else self-funded and self-studied? Does anyone know how the practical experience works if you are part-time?
