Hey, friends.
So- concise run down
He’s 66, has mismanaged diabetes and autism (he forgets to take his meds at least three times a week), he is missing a leg below the knee, and lives in a care home. He’s very lonely, and he doesn’t have much in his life.
I am his pastor, and I am trying to help him get his life together, gently and supportively, but because he’s under his own capacity and lacks critical thinking skills, it’s always a messy process. We’re getting there.
Recently, he has fallen for a romance scam. He met this “women” on a dating site who claims to be 33, and super into him. He believes all of this, says she’s his soulmate, he loves her, she’s the most intelligent women he’s ever met (and I’m over here like, this is certainly like some middle aged dude in Bangladesh or something), and he cannot seem to grasp that this is a scam. He has revealed his full name, bank name, and the name of his care home. I feel like he has likely revealed other information and may just be reluctant to tell me.
We reverse image searched the photos and found they were linked to an OF account of someone in LA, and this person managed to convince him that they’d “give up” only fans and were “so ashamed” of it, like…really playing into it. So he believes it, and is also convinced that since he’s a poor disabled dude, there’s nothing to be worried about.
At this point, I’ve considered contacting APS and discussing any options I have to protect him from, well, himself essentially.
If anyone has any advice or experience with this, I’d really love some input.
