Hubs friend is sending money to a liar in Uganda and even went to see her there

TLDR: friend is sending money to, and actually went to meet, a “single mother” in Uganda.

So this is bonkers. My husbands friend is a very sweet 30-something guy from Midwest USA. Good job, makes good money, shy so tried meeting women online.

For the past 2 years, Friend has been communicating with and sending money to a woman in Uganda who originally told him: *She was Russian *She was single no kids

Gradually the trickle-truth began and he learned she was actually from Uganda and has an 8 year old son.

Last year he visited her in Uganda…I know…U Ghanda be kidding me right?

No, he did it. He went. They took a ton of framed pictures that my husband and I saw when staying at Friend’s house a few months ago. The looks on the faces of this Ugandan woman and her mother were…cringey at best. The woman’s Mom was in some of the photos and she especially looked like she was smirking and thinking “this dumb fuck is gonna be broke soon we gonna take all his dollar-bucks”, or something similar. They looked so insincere, it saddened us to see.

Recently Friend had to go to Europe for work. Ugandan woman supposedly was going to fly in and meet him. All arranged. I believe the flight was purchased or Friend sent money for that. She didn’t go. He was there for several weeks. She ghosted him for part of it, then Some excuses, blah blah.

He’s still sending her money and talking to her.

Now Friend has recently said he wants to plan a trip with all 4 of us to the Mediterranean. Like, seriously? She ghosted him during his Europe visit which would have been a nice easier meet up—husband and I think it was because she has other men she strings along and one of them was visiting her—and he doesn’t question this at all or she must have some damn good excuses…but we really don’t know what to think. Could this possibly be real? I’m thinking it’s a long shot and Friend is a fool for believing someone he has nothing in common with and who has already lied so much about basic things.

*** has anyone had friends who did this? Met a mystery liar person in Uganda?! We are scared for him. Uganda is Uganda and if he goes back again we fear for his safety.
