Idea for people trying to convince a family member they are getting scammed

I kind of fell into this by accident, but it actually might be really helpful for people here who are having trouble convincing older loved ones that the scammer who convinced them they’re Keanu Reeves or whoever “because they sent a video” – here’s something you can do to demonstrate to them how easy it is to fake things. You could do this in advance, or on-the-fly right in front of them.

A lot of the new AI models are very approachable for image manipulation, so I was playing with Kling a few days back. I decided it might be nice to “bring to life” a photo of my mom and my Dad’s father playing with a couple of their black Labrador retrievers in my Dad’s yard when they were recently married. I had just scanned a lot of family photos, so I had a really cute one and just uploaded it into Kling and said “the woman and the man are petting the dogs who are enjoying it and smiling” and it made an amazing 5 second clip off of the photo which shows exactly that.

I showed it to my Dad. He was blown away, if for nothing other than seeing “video” of his father – for which there is no actual video of him that exists.

But after he was blown away by that, I was able to also use that in the context of describing wrong number scams and pig butchering scams. So now I know he’ll realize that scammers can create anything in AI – even scenes he would believe, but obviously knows are not real.

Just a thought. I don’t know if Kling is the best at this or if there are others, it’s just what I started with. I did have to pay a few bucks for credits but nothing ridiculous, and in comparison to the damage pig butchering can do it’s worth it.
