Fake jewelry scam incident

I’ve been reading this subreddit for awhile, and so, understood immediately when a pretty young woman came up to my car window in the supermarket parking lot, in the middle of a busy Sunday afternoon.

She asked if she could ask me a question. I tuned out, but she had a small, shrink-wrapped box in her hand, and said something about getting money for gas.

I said, « No, I can’t, » and she walked away.

It was the fake gold jewelry scam.

There was a store employee eating her lunch in the next car, and she asked me what was asked. I told her about the scam.

I was fired up, and so got out of the car to find another store employer who was on the clock, and pointed out the scammer. However, I had locked my keys in the car.

While I was contacting roadside assistance, the scammer came around again, and was chatting up a young mother with kids. She seemed to be taken in, and accepted the small box, so I yelled « It’s a scam! » a couple times. The scammer went away.

My good deed for the day.
