My teenage artist got a message from a tumblr rando to « commission » an art piece for a generous fee. Fortunately, they had the sense to talk to the parents first! Yep, basic tumblr artist scam.
« It’s kinda weird that they want me to do a picture like this in « my style » when the art style of my blog is not 2D. What makes them think they’d like my style? It’s not applicable! »
I explained what would happen to any money the scammer sent, and how the scammer would try to get them to pay for something (mint crypto, pay a refund, launder the money…), and kaboom. At this point I note a lot of swiping on the kiddo’s phone…
« What are you doing now? »
« Blocking them and flagging the account as spam. »
