[EU] Scammer has my phone number, what to do with whatsapp account

Hey,

I couldnt really find an answer with chatty and google, so I am trying to find help here.

Since a few month I was getting scam messages on Telegram and Whatsapp, I always blocked the sender (was that a mistake?), never answered. Since a week I am also getting calls from weird numbers, which I ofc also ignore.

So, now I am thinking about getting a new number, because this becomes annoying + it seems to be the safest way to avoid further hacking… is that overkill? Or is it enough to report this to my mobile provider + use app based 2fa?

Also, if I get a new number, can I link it to my existing messenger (whatsapp etc) accounts, so its easier to stay in groups, or will the scammers then right away know my new number also?
