i ALMOST got scammed for the first time in Discord

a random friend on discord approached me and told me i was reported accidentally and that i had to speak to a discord support employee. when i did, the man gave me his credentials (resume and certificate) and asked me to fill out some basic information. i didn’t realize it at first because everything seemed genuine (at least to me) and i was sooo anxious about it, i had no experience with this shit whatsoever.

when i implied that i didn’t have any cash on me, the employee apparently seemed persistent, telling me to ask my parents and my friends, also rushing me to immediately pay the fee ($150). i was too anxious and pressured to even realize things, i even attempted to put the responsibility of paying onto the « friend » but the request wasn’t really entertained, which now i can see why.

luckily enough for me, due to my panicked response, i got a rate limit, with discord not allowing me to change my email. from what i’ve read— thanks to people sharing their experiences, discord would never make you change your email, so the culprit didn’t really succeed, but he did make me create a new account.

it got to the point that i was breaking down that i had to wake my dad to tell him about it. he made me see things i didn’t realize, like things being easily fabricated, and the fact that the supposed employee was rushing me, even lowering the price which made no sense but i was too panicked to realize. i immediately felt stupid for causing unnecessary drama and nearly wasted money for my sister. ugh

i ended up blocking him, and on the alternative account some time later, i found out that i was blocked by him too, which sums it up. so yeah, the whole thing made me see how naive i am, i can’t believe i almost made my family pay for this TT
